The evolution, as propounded by Charles Darwin, has not stopped with the evolution of some apes into Homo sapiens (human beings). Though man's mastery of science and his tampering with the natural process seemed to put an end to the evolutionary process, evolution is still taking place in subtle ways. And the animal that is coming out on top of this evolutionary sweepstakes is the female of the Homo sapiens, i.e. the woman.

Since evolution, the female of all species, except human beings, has always remained deadlier than its male counterpart. These females are independent, strong and lead life on their own terms. They can perform all the chores be it hunting for food or taking care of themselves or their young ones; they are not dependent on the males. In fact, the female of these species does not need the male for anything except mating during the rutting season.

Some of these females are, in fact, literally 'deadly'. If the male praying mantis fails to promptly quit after mating, the female would eat him up. It is the same with scorpions too.

However, unlike the female of other species, the female of the Homo sapiens did not evolve into a deadly or for that matter, even an independent creature; or more precisely, it was not allowed to evolve so by its male counterpart. Men have always used religion and customs, directly and indirectly, to arrest the evolution of women so the women will remain subservient to them.

But you cannot stop something that is as natural as evolution from evolving. The evolutionary process has also been assuming other subtle forms; as a result, the female of the human beings is slowly and steadily evolving into independent beings capable of fending for themselves.

Aggression and ambition are the traits that are essential to survive and come out on top in the evolutionary game. Belligerence and a desire to reign at the top catapults one to the top of the heap. And, women, through natural selection and progressive adaptation (i.e. acquiring education, securing a job leading to financial independence), have become aggressive and ambitious. Even as women are on the ascent, men have started relinquishing their dominant role and are being relegated to a secondary status. In other words, men are becoming soft, tender, emotional and self-conscious traits that were once considered feminine. While women are becoming aggressive, career-oriented and independent, men are evolving into "metrosexuals". The trend is subtle and yet noticeable all over the world. As with every evolutionary change, this change is also gradual and unhurried.

This has unnerved the patriarchal religions and societies which have fallen upon the time-tested method of misusing and abusing religion to suppress women; the female's need for the male of the species is increasingly becoming just biological or sexual as is the case with other species. To a modern woman, man is nothing but a provider of sex and sperm.

Worse still, a woman can opt to fertilize herself without having a man around. She can choose just the sperm and reject its owner. Sperm banks have made it easier for women even to select the physical and mental attributes of their babies. As cloning technology makes further progress, women may not even need sperm (or man) for reproduction.

These changes are already perceptible and it is only a matter of time before women emerge as the dominant species on the evolutionary scale. The age ahead is, no doubt, the Age of Women.

The Solicitor General Mr G E Vahanvati submitted before the Constitution Bench that if the court wanted the exclusion of the 'creamy layer' from the quota, the Centre would obey it. The Constitution Bench comprised of Justice Arijit Pasayat, C K Thakker, R V Raveendran and Dalveer Bhandari asked what the changed circumstance was. What was new that the Solicitor General was arguing.

The Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admissions) Act 2006 cannot be implemented until the main petitions, challenging the very validity of the Act, is decided. Last week, a three-judge Divisional Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan stated that the matter of Centre's application regarding the vacation of stay on OBC quota would be heard before the Constitution Bench. The Bench also said that the Constitution Bench would hear the Public Interest Litigations (PILs) questioning the constitutional validity of the Act that permits 27 per cent OBC quota in higher educational institutions.

The culprit behind the transformation of this coalition government into a laughing stock is the Human Resource Minister, Arjun Singh. Singh is a very harassed person these days. He has been named in a dowry harassment case; the ruling by the apex court must have left him very angry and disappointed with our judicial system. He hoped the reservation campaign would be an absolute masterstroke and it almost worked for him. He had suddenly snatched the copyright to "reservation" from another former king, V.P.Singh.

Arjun Singh is the old style Darbari Politician who remained in power courtesy the Indira Gandhi family. After losing repeatedly in several elections, he resigned himself to his fate and exploited the emotive issue of the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi to stay in the limelight. For years he would talk only about the assassination probe in order to be in the "Darbari loop" of 10, Janpath. His dedication bore fruit and he too got into the cabinet with the other family loyalists. But seemingly determined to outdo V.P.Singh, he revived the reservation issue.

His misadventure did not go well with his cabinet colleagues .However, the issue being sensitive, everybody pretended to support him. Even the opposition Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) was left with no choice but to support the issue. The left parties patted him on his back and the tacit encouragement may have led him to believe that he had finally arrived, at last, on the political horizon of the nation. But the court rulings have soured his ambitions. Arjun Singh knows that the reservation issue will not help the Congress wrest the initiative from the likes of Mayawati and Lalu Prasad Yadav. Instead it would make Manmohan Singh and others who work hard for the country's progress, very uncomfortable. And if circumstances permit, Arjun Singh would not mind pulling the rug from under their feet to ascend the throne. After all, he chose the very emotive issue to fulfill his lifelong ambition.

The Congress on the other hand did not derive any benefit from this move of Arjun Singh. Rather, it scared away the intelligentsia which was gravitating to-wards it, thanks to the clean image of Dr Manmohan Singh. After the disintegration of BJP, the upper castes and the literate people were drawn towards the Congress but this regressive act, coupled with a liberal dose of appeasement policy led them to change their mind.

If India is to be a developed nation by 2020 then the benefits of growth must percolate to the lowest strata of the society. The Planning Commission is working towards this and various systems are being weighed to make delivery systems at the grass-roots level absolutely leak proof. Captains of Industry too have woken up and are willing to contribute to "effective" affirmative action. The government is trying to dole out cash to the needy to eradicate poverty. A smart card, embedded with an advanced chip will be distributed to every citizen of India to accomplish this goal. That will, hopefully, keep out the middlemen.

But the irony of our nation is that even senior politicians are not able to think beyond personal welfare. They spend their life self-serving and now when the country is all set to move into the developed zone, they are again playing dirty politics. Yes, our poor brethren genuinely deserve help in this competitive age but they need something tangible by way of help - not dirty politicking!

According to Jai Menon, Director, IT and Innovation Bharti Airtel Limited, three sets of services will be made available to the customers of Airtel Broadband with a single sign-on completely free of cost. "We will allow three sets of services. One there will be Airtel set of services—music, gaming and video messaging. Second is completely Google set of services and third is a local content developers' gadget," said Menon.

While expressing his opinion Shailesh Rao, Managing Director, Google India said, "Google is committed to enriching the online experience of users in India. The alliance will provide an ideal platform for Airtel users to enjoy the best possible online experience with customized access to Google's evolving suite of innovative products."

Strategically this move gives a lot of push to the rumors of the Google Phone. This is even more consolidated by Business Standards reporting. "The Airtel and Google alliance also plans to extend its services and suites to . . . mobile phones in times to come," writes the magazine. It has been noticed in recent times that Google is taking a lot of interest in the mobile market. The Airtel deal is not the only one move in the telecom sector but Google had also signed up a Wi-Max agreement with Sprint lately.

What would be the future of this high-profile tie-up and how beneficial will it prove, thousands of experts are keeping a tab on that.

The AT&T has not subsidized the iPhone, which is priced at either US$499(Approx Rs 20,459) or $599 (Approx Rs 24,559), for varied models. But the phone is simply locked to monopolize, as AT&T Inc and Apple Inc, have signed a five year agreement for sole distribution of iPhone in U.S.

This compulsion was undesirable by the hacker community. If they become successful in unlocking the phone, this shall be a benefit to all the customers locked with some other carrier in U.S and also to the users wanting to buy iPhone outside U.S. Even though it looks simple it's not an easy task, the hackers will have to initially triumph over many challenges. One of those challenge involves circumventing the verification process in iTunes that both lets users register for an AT&T service plan and turn on the phone's features, including its camera and music player.

Few days back, hackers had made significant development in spoofing the activation and authentication process. This shall also prevent the SIM locking. But the phone remained locked at the time of writing. This technique permitted hackers to write and read data on the iPhone together with the capability to query whether a phone has been activated. This is a significant progress to unlock the iPhone as the rest is simple legwork.

After clearing the activation issue, hackers will have to overcome with other issues like: does iTunes have the capacity to identify a phone that was not activated for use with the AT&T network? Sheikh Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar, also known as Dawood Ibrahim is a don of the organised crime syndicate and heads the D-Company. Presently featuring on the most wanted list of Interpol for being involved in terrorist activities, Dawood is accused of having a vast illegal empire, which has made him a byword in law enforcement circles, somewhat similar to that of Osama Bin Laden. Dawood became India's most wanted man after the Mumbai serial blasts in 1993, which he is believed to have masterminded. As a result of persistent lobbying by the Indian Government, in 2003, the Government of United States declared him a global terrorist, after which Dawood is believed to have moved to Pakistan (from UAE, where he was previously residing).

Since the spread of news regarding Dawood's new hiding place in Pakistan, the Government of Pakistan has been constantly denying having knowledge of any such thing. Though US and Indian intelligence agencies have many a times provided adequate evidences of Dawood getting support from the Government of Pakistan and his linkups with the Pashtun Mafia, Government of Pakistan has always shown its ignorance over the matter. The Interpol has even provided a list of Dawood's secret hideouts in Pakistan.

India realised the magnitude of threat to the nation security from Dawood Ibrahim only after a series of thirteen powerful blasts, took place in Mumbai on 12 March 1993. The blasts shook the country's commercial capital completely. The most destructive blasts in the history of India, it resulted in the death of over 250 civilians and another 700 sustained injuries. Not only terrorist activities, but Dawood is also believed to be controlling the 'Hawala System', which is responsible for transferring money without the knowledge of officials, thus resulting in huge losses to the Government.

However little, yet intelligence agencies have had their share of luck in catching members of D-Company and thus trying to curb down their activities. What proved to be a major blow to the gang was when ten members of D-Company were arrested and extradited from the UAE by the Bombay Crime Branch.

If we look back through the activities and operations of Dawood's D-Company, there is strong evidence to suggest that the group has the backing of ISI, the Government of Pakistan as well as the authorities in the United Arab Emirates. It is one of the major reasons why Dawood manages to roam freely in these countries despite being the most wanted person for Indian intelligence agencies (as well as for the US up to a certain extent).

However, certain developments as well as the news of the recent clash between Dawood and the ISI suggests that there may be a case of a rift between the two groups in which the Pakistan Government may have started to realise that the D-Company may prove to be a threat even for them. It will not be of much surprise then, if someday we hear the news of the arrest (or even killing) of the D-Company mastermind at the hands of the Inter-Services Intelligence. Whatever the reason, one thing is for sure that the world would be a much better place to live in without such notorious gangsters. The end of the D-Company may be near and certain.
